The Surgical Clinical Reviewer's chief responsibility is to
identify pediatric surgical patients, collect and submit reliable
data to the American College of Surgeons (ACS) NSQIP online
registry. This is accomplished through high quality data
compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of
all the eligible surgeries for Medical City Dallas. The SCR works
closely with the Children's Surgery Program Manager and other
members of the surgical teams to identify opportunities for
clinical quality improvement and other special projects, as they
may be identified.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes, but is not limited

Clinical knowledge, chart review and abstraction into a data
registry. Data collection and identification of areas for quality
improvement requires clinical knowledge and understanding of
Database data entry preferred-Utilizing new software and web
applications for data entry and report generation.
Computer and Internet experience required-familiarity and comfort
with Office products (Word-Excel-PowerPoint), some basic
statistical skills. Web navigation. Ability to track down abstract
information through various sources such as medical records,
surgery clinics, direct patient contact.
Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge to identify
opportunities for improvement.
Ability to interact with all members of the surgical team, nursing,
medicine, and administrative staff in a professional and courteous
manner. This is relevant for groups or meetings. (Infection
control, M & M, quality management, and administration)
Ability to interact with proficient and courteous telephone skills
when calling families for post-surgical procedure follow up.
Minimum of One Year experience in the following settings required:
Hospital Surgery, Surgery Clinic Medical Records/Coding Bachelor's
Degree Required CPT and ICD-10 knowledge preferred RN license in
the state of Texas required RHIA (Registered health information
administrator), RHIT (Registered health information technician)
preferred. Successful completion of the ACS NSQIP SCR
Training/Certification program, after hire date.
There is a certification exam at the end of on-learning program,
must pass with 90%.
Yearly testing required by the American College of Surgeons.
