Job Description:

Position Summary:Hardware Buyer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities(Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Purchases building supplies and materials including hardware, hollow metal, postal specialities, and other miscellaneous products.
  • Insures adequate supply of inventory at all times.
  • Prepares purchase orders. Confers with vendors to obtain product information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Determines inventory levels by analyzing inventory reports on a daily basis.
  • Reviews products & categories to achieve targeted GMROI.
  • Creates new SKU codes and product information sheets to communicate appropriate SKU's for use.
  • Provides product data as requested.
  • Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Maintains procurement records such as purchase orders of materials/goods purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Reviews and codes all invoices for accuracy, prior to payment to vendors.Checks each SKU for price fluctuations of more than + $ .01.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable materials/goods with users, vendors, and others to determine source of defect and takes corrective action.
  • Reviews and approves invoices for payment, making necessary credit or cost adjustments for incorrect billing.
  • Expedites delivery of goods to users.Notifies receiving departments of incoming loads.Works with all receiving team members to accurately receive products and label or re-label received goods.
  • Occasionally attends buying shows and seminars to keep up-to-date on product information and to build/maintain relationships with new and prior vendors.
  • Meet current goal of 18 inventory turns a year.

Competencies:

  • Education and/or Experience: 2 plus years direct line experience in the millwork industry or construction supplies.Prior purchasing background in a closely related field is desirable.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, professional journals, technical procedures, or reports.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure information.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.Must relate well with all groups of managers and team members, top down and bottom up.Must practice good teamwork.
  • Mathematical Skills:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Must know dimensional lumber units of measure.
  • Reasoning Ability:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills:Intermediate Microsoft Excel experience.
